Register NOW: 2009 Winter Conference in Los Angeles!
United Students Against Sweatshops 2009 Winter Conference
February 6-8, 2009| Los Angeles, California
Employee Free Choice NOW!

Good news for people from cold, unfriendly climates-- the 2009 United Students Against Sweatshops Winter Conference will be held in sunny Los Angeles at the University of Southern California! The conference will take place the first weekend in February 2009, from Friday the 6th to Sunday the 8th.

The USAS conference is a great space for youth and student organizers and allies to meet each other, learn valuable organizing skills in workshops and panels, meet veteran organizers, participate in direct action in solidarity with local workers with hundreds of other student organizers, and strengthen our collective organizing work! (Not to mention the downtime to hang out with other student organizers and the occasional party or two that's been known to erupt at USAS conferences.)

REGISTER NOW! As always, USAS offers travel scholarships for the folks in our network. We prioritize early registration, folks who have looked for alternate sources of grassroots fundraising, and folks from traditionally marginalized backgrounds-- especially working class folks, people of color, women, LGBTQ people, and differently abled folks. Contact Shaun at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it to get a travel scholarship form.

If you need to apply for funding from other sources and need help or supporting documents, please contact USAS National Staff and one of us can help you with that process.

See y'all in LA in two months!

Support Workers Occupying Chicago Factory and a People's Bailout!
Workers who are members of UE Local 1110 in Chicago have been occupying their plant, Republic Windows and Doors, after being laid off and refused severance and vacation pay in violation of labor law. Bank of America has frozen the credit of their management after receiving bailout money from taxpayers, further showing how the financial institutions in this country value profits over people. This week, December 7 through 13, Jobs with Justice has called a Week of Action for a People's Bailout.

USASers spoke with a UE organizer in Chicago on Tuesday, December 9th, to get an update on what was going on and what we can do as student-labor organizers to support a militant labor movement and a grassroots movement that is truly challenging corporate power in North America.

For ongoing updates and more information on the Week of Action, see:
